Maasai wedding in Kenya

In a Maasai wedding, the bride traditionally wears a bold, colorful and heavy necklace and headpiece comprised of colorful beads and shells. Historically, among the Maasai group, women were allowed to be married from the age of twelve, but this social norm slowly changes as years go by and education becomes more available.

Before the wedding ceremony takes place, the bride is required to shave her head, a ritual that is meant to symbolize her new life and new beginning. That’s when the bride is joined by her female friends, receives wedding presents, and leaves her family and village behind to embark on her new life and journey.
