Ribnovo Region in Southwest Bulgaria
In the remote town of Ribnovo, located in the Southwestern region of Bulgaria, they have wedding traditions that are unique to the area. Wedding festivities last as long as five days, and on each day, a different ritual takes place. On the second day, the bride’s face is painted in white and decorated with sequins on a private ritual open only to female guests.
The bride’s female relatives gather together to paint her face in a thick layer of white chalk, and then cover them with colorful sequins. The wedding festivities include plenty of singing and dancing, performed by the happy couple as well as the wedding guests.
