Wedding in Tonga
In the Polynesian island of Tonga, they have a very unique rule: all couples must be friends first. Before you ask a girl out on a date, you must ask for her friendship. Only then is the couple is the couple allowed to start dating, and only then the proposal follows (after asking for the father’s approval, of course). It might sound old-fashioned, but it works for them.
After this long process, when the couple is finally allowed to get married you can imagine it’s a pretty big celebration, not just for the two of them. The Tongan wedding attire resembles the customary dress we’ve seen in Fiji; the wedding gown is made from the Tapa cloth, and is adorned with brown and black symbols that represent the family.
