Traditional Wedding Dresses From Around the World

July 14, 2017 by Lisa Turner

Bride in India

An Indian wedding is a whole festival; it is intricate, takes months to plan, colorful, vibrant and most importantly – culturally and traditionally-rich. An Indian wedding is one of the best ways to learn about the Indian culture. One of the most iconic elements of an Indian wedding are the henna tattoos applied to the bride, groom and the guests. The intricate designs are not just for aesthetic reasons, but they symbolize cultural beliefs.

The Indian bridal gown is always red, which might strike us as unconventional – but who’s to say what’s normal and what isn’t? The sari is combined with extensive jewelry, including a big head jewel. The richness of the attire, the intense colors and the abundance of jewelry symbolize fertility and the bride’s commitment to the marriage.
