Traditional Wedding Dresses From Around the World

July 14, 2017 by Lisa Turner

Matyó bride in Hungary

The Matyó people are a subgroup of Hungarians who populate a region in the country called the Matyó Land and maintain a unique culture among the political, geographical and cultural changes surrounding them. This includes, of course, wedding traditions that are unique to the region.

Among the Matyó people, wedding attire includes an embroidered dress of floral patterns, when the dress is ought to be white, while the embroidered flowers are red and blue, accompanied by a big headdress woven with wheat. The flowers on the dress and the wheat woven into the headdress are not coincidental; they symbolize fertility, fortune and prosperity.
