#16: Water-Shoes
In the year 1962, the innovative M.W. Hulton proudly paraded his ingenious creation, dubbed ‘Sea-Shoes,’ not on the vast ocean but on England’s iconic Grand Union Canal. This majestic waterway, stretching an impressive 137 miles from the bustling city of London to the heart of the Midlands in Birmingham, served as the unconventional runway for Hulton’s novel invention, adding a dash of intrigue and charm to the momentous occasion.
It’s a bit of a stretch to believe he traversed the full expanse of the waterway on his aquatic loafers. Even with the aid of those whimsical “duckfoot propellers” churning the water beneath him, propelling him forward. Ah, but imagine the sight! The sun reflected off the water, the wind in his hair, the thrill of adventure as he glided effortlessly over the waves. What a spectacle that must have been!
