#22: The Purves Dynasphere
Behold the 1932 Purves Dynasphere, a marvel of British ingenuity that, surprisingly, never revolutionized mass transportation. Crafted by the inventive Dr. John Purves, this extraordinary contraption, despite its outlandish charm, failed to secure a place in the pantheon of successful British inventions. It’s a whimsical reminder of the quirky detours on the road to technological progress.
Drawing inspiration from a sketch by the illustrious Leonardo da Vinci, Purves created a vehicle that could zip along at a brisk 30 mph. However, its Achilles heel was its steering mechanism, which required the driver to lean precariously out of the vehicle. Add to that its lackluster performance in the rain, and it’s no wonder the Dynasphere didn’t exactly take the world by storm!
