#38: All Hail the Ping Pong Ball!

Table tennis, also known as ping pong, has been an Olympic sport since 1988, 17 years after a delegation of American ping pong players traveled to China in an attempt to ease hostilities between the two nations. It’s no secret that ping pong is popular in China, as they’ve taken home 28 of the 32 gold medals for this sport.

South Korea comes in a far second, with a total of 3 golds won, and Japan and Sweden snapped up a single gold medal each. This is a men and women’s event, including one mixed pair match.
