#33: Hard Hit!
This was no close call. After thousands of flips without ever hitting the diving board, it finally happened on live television during the 1988 Olympics in Seoul. The injury wasn’t grave, but Greg Louganis was HIV positive and was terrified to risk fellow athletes coming into contact with his blood.

He finished the competition, barely winning by 1.14 points. He made history by performing “The Dive of Death,” a move that had killed his rival, Sergei Chalibashvili, five years previously. He quit the scene shortly after that and didn’t tell anyone about his HIV status until 1995.
