Bride and groom in China
Perhaps it’s not coincidental that the Chinese flag is red; in China, the color red is associated with luck. We’re starting to see a pattern emerge here, where in many Eastern countries, red is considered a positive color associated with good luck, fertility and prosperity. Accordingly, traditional wedding attire in China is red.
In China, as in other countries, the bride and groom are dressed according to their families’ unique patterns and fabrics. Unlike in other countries we’ve seen, in China the groom is the one visiting the bride’s house prior to the wedding ceremony; upon his arrival, he is blocked by the bridesmaids who wait for the bride’s approval to let him in (it’s bad luck for the groom to see the bride before the ceremony), and then the families sit down for a joined tea ceremony.
