Bride in Schaumburg-lippe, Germany
The Bridal Crown is a traditional headdress women wear on several occasions and holidays throughout their lives, and finally on their wedding day. In Germany, as in most countries around the world, wedding traditions vary from region to region. The Bridal Crown, however, is a traditional costume that is common to the Black Forrest and some of the surrounding countries.
In this region, for example, the extravagant headdress is made of beads and colored glass balls, while in Scandinavia, these are often made of silver or brass. The Bridal Crown dates back to the 18th century, when mostly well-endowed families could afford them, but even then, women had the option of renting or borrowing these crowns for their special day.
