Portugal
Although most the weddings these days are considered modern, they’ve reserved some of the old traditions of a Portuguese wedding. For example, after the ceremony and during the reception, the bride’s shoe is passed around the room for the guests to fill it with money – to help the young couple start their life together (but mostly it pays for their honeymoon these days).
Traditionally, the bride wears a long tunic and her neck is covered with gold necklaces. The gold necklaces are worn in honor of the Portuguese royalty, the crosses are in honor of the Catholic church and the beads around her neck are an ancient influence from the time of the Moors.
