Javanese bride and groom
A traditional wedding in Java often starts with a procession that, according to cultural belief, is supposed to ward off bad luck for the newlywed couple. In some cultures, at a happy event, such as a wedding, the bride and groom are showered with rice, in other places they are showered in hard candy, and in Java the newly wed couple is showered with water by a group of their closest companions.
As far as the wedding outfits go, traditional Javanese wedding attire includes a sarong, a high-collared shirt for the groom and a shawl for the bride. The woman’s hair is put in a flat bun, and both the bride and groom wear a traditional headpiece, a sort of a crown.
