Bride in Romania
Some regions in Romania are more traditional than others, such as the Oas region. In the Northwest part of Transylvania weddings are an elaborate cultural event, where the bride and groom choose the future godparents of their future children. Everything is prepared by the families, from the wedding decorations, to the dowry and even the wedding costumes.
The bride wears a traditional wedding skirt called a ‘fotă’, a puffy skirt that consists of layers of cotton or wool. Combined with the skirt, the bride often wears boots (due to the cold weather) and a traditional headpiece called ‘maramă’. Around her neck, the Romanian bride wears an abundance of beads, which weigh over 10 kilograms.
