#18: The American Dream Is Shrinking
When we hear of the American Dream, it is still focused on a family with two children, a dog, a car, and a home with a white picket fence and a garden. However, that just isn’t the case anymore. Now, even if we get a small apartment with a window and one room instead of a studio, it is a miracle.
Now, we are lucky if two incomes can afford a small, 400-square-foot place to rent. How have things changed so much, so quickly? We aren’t quite sure either. I know that most young people would be happy to move out of their parents’ basement without worrying about going into debt.
