I can’t decide if they were trying to open a gateway down below or if someone ran into their mailbox outside, causing a mad dash to see the commotion. There is no way it burned this bad without alerting someone in the house by smell alone. That’s… super crispy. Even the parchment paper is burnt! (That is parchment paper, right?)

I’ve never actually tried to bake dumplings, but that has to be what went wrong. Every time I’ve made dumplings, it’s been a quick fry in a wok followed by a splash of water to steam them with the top on. I’ve always kept a careful eye, so they don’t burn. Maybe this is the oven dumpling curse? That would explain everything.
