The Iconic Salt Girl
Not many people know that, but more often than not, the iconic labels used by some brands aren’t fictional but modeled after real people. This one is a good example; the Morton Salt label shows a young girl holding an umbrella and a can of salt that is pouring out. This was not just a random graphic design – it was modeled after a real girl.
According to this person, the girl’s father painted her portrait and entered it in a contest. This was a very long time ago (the American food company dates back to 1848!), and we have to wonder what that money would be worth today. It most likely wouldn’t amount to much, especially because the person mentioned that they did not pay a lot, probably because they were just a small company when they started out.
