#19: Alaska is One of a Kind
Just like time, geography is another area where our preconceptions, more often than not, turn out to be misconceptions. It may be partially due to the fact that all of our knowledge comes from maps drawn at a particular time by particular people. Or it might be because we spent most of the middle-school geography class asleep.
However, there is another reason why Alaska’s unique status is a little bit difficult to get your head around. How can it contain both the Easternmost and Westernmost points in the United States of America, you ask? Easy. It crosses the zero-degree longitude line, making its territory a part of both the Eastern and Western Hemispheres.
