Odd School Years
America likes to do things differently, as the phrase goes “go big or go home.” While most parts of the world still use the metric system, the U.S likes to be the odd one and use their own names for the school years. The majority of the world follows standard numbers like 8th or 9th grade, while American schools refer to 9th graders as “Freshman”.

Next is Sophomore, Junior, and Seniors are grade 12. These school names are also transferred to college and university. It is very common for people to say they are juniors, rather than 11th graders, which can definitely confuse some people. Don’t worry, even Americans get mixed up from time to time.
