Dwight Gooden began his MLB career as a pitcher with the New York Mets in 1984. He stayed with them through the 1994 season. In his rookie year, “Doctor K” struck out 276 batters and won 17 of the 31 games he started; both were records. His ERA in 1984 was 2.60.
