#25: No point in pretending
As she was approaching the age of eleven, Ava finally learned the truth about Santa – that he doesn’t really exist. Finding out Santa isn’t real is like a rite of passage for kids, a sign that they’re growing up. It’s a positive thing, but there’s also something sad about it – as if they’re letting go of a pure, innocent part of their childhood.
It seems like this girl took the news pretty easy, with understanding and acceptance. Even though she now knows that Santa isn’t real, she isn’t bitter about being lied to, but she’s happy for the time she spent believing in him – as she says in her letter, “I want you to know how much I enjoyed believing in you for the past 10.5 years.”
