Which is which?
If you’re curious as to why British homes tend to have two taps and not one, it all stems from back when hot and cold water were separated. Hot water came from a tank, and cold water came from the main supply. Two different lines meant that they needed two different taps. But why is it still going on?
If you’re wondering why they don’t just switch to the single tap that most Americans have, maybe it’s the nostalgia of it all, or maybe the simple answer is that old habits die hard. British people enjoy the design and they’re comfortable with it, so why change it? On second thought, though, maybe it could lead to more maintenance.
