Where’s the Lie?
All professional athletes are immensely talented. There’s no denying that, but it does seem that a person’s tolerance for pain depends on the kind of sport they play. When you compare soccer, hockey, and boxing, the pain tolerance meter seems totally unhinged. How can a soccer player fall on the ground after getting poked by the opposing team, meanwhile boxers literally get punched in the face?
Boxers and hockey players may seem “tougher” than soccer players, but they might just be used to interacting with the opposition in a certain way. Getting punched in the face is literally a boxer’s job, after all. While we can’t explain why hockey players like getting into brawls, we can at least say that soccer players have a high level of endurance and nimbleness.
