Yes, these youngsters are very charming. However, mortality rates were lower during the Dark Ages. Only 17% of babies survived past infancy, and more than 33% of the Viking population died before adulthood. If you reached the age of 50, you would be termed an old person. Only half of the males lived to the age of 30; however, females had considerably better odds because they weren’t often placed in battle, although there were several exceptions.
A qualifying birthday is January 1, 2000. Therefore, if you turned the age of 20, you already had a good chance of beating the odds and would have been technically considered a middle-aged person. Those are some hefty stats to put on a youngster who’s acting in Vikings, so let’s just hope they liked filming that day and no one informed them the characters they were playing would most likely have died young.
