Sports fans everywhere can’t get enough of these weird posts from around the world. We’re not sure if you’ve heard of these before, but we’re confident that you’ll find them just as weird as we do.
What is the weirdest Olympic sport?
The weirdest Olympic sport that we found is ‘Plunge for Distance’. This combined the long jump with swimming and was part of the 1900 Games in Paris.
Now that we featured the weirdest Olympic Sport of all time, let’s share some of the world’s most unusual sports that everyday people participate in.
This is a sport enjoyed in England and was started in 1954. The purpose was to help the British diving club stay active and in shape during the winter months. This sport works similarly to hockey combined with diving and allows the swimmers wearing snorkels to take a long stick and push a puck that’s at the bottom of the pool to teammates.
The puck is heavy enough to stay at the bottom of the pool but can be moved by an opponent when they opt to dive down and pass it along. This serves to keep the divers arms, legs, and body in shape while ensuring they’re practicing their diving skills all year round.
This weird sport is typically enjoyed in Germany where the two people wear headphones and boxing gear. As they plan their moves in chess, they’re also participating in a boxing event. This is a seriously weird twist on chess and boxing that promotes mental and physical competition during 11 rounds.
This sport is most enjoyed in Indonesia. Rather than using a typical soccer ball, the ball is a coconut doused in kerosene and set on fire! Players welcome the month of Ramadan by participating in this weird sport each year.
Players soak themselves in non-flammable items like salt and other spices as they enjoy a game of soccer using this fireball coconut.
This is a sport that is enjoyed in the Netherlands. The term translates to “far leaping” and takes pole vaulting to a whole new level. Participants will run along a long dock and then launch themselves at a hug pole that’s in the middle of a canal.
From here, each person is to pull themselves up to the top of the ball, while in the middle of a canal. They’ll use their weight to try to shimmy the pole towards the sand on the other side of the canal to become the winner of each round.
Last, but not least, this sport is famous in England and involves a ferret being placed down the pants of the participant. This is just a test of how long each person can handle having a ferret in their pants! The person participating must tie their pants to their ankles and put a ferret down into their pants. The person who lasts the longest with a ferret in their pants is determined to be the winner.
These are for sure some weirdest sports that many enjoy all over the world, but we’re not sure anything tops the Sweden sport called Kaninhoppning. This is where bunnies participate in a hopping event, much like an equestrian jumping course. It’s surely a sight to see and one of the more adorable weird sports of the world we’ve shared today.
