Why Don’t Passengers Get Parachutes?
Parachute drop zones are entertaining. In reality, to parachute safely, you must have training and expertise. For safety reasons, a parajumper will be accompanied for the first 18 jumps by an escort either to the ground or off the plane. Passenger jets fly at altitudes greater than 16000 feet, making parachuting impossible.
Obviously, people can’t breathe at the height that commercial aircraft fly. If a jumper could even get out of the plane in the first place with the air pressure preventing the emergency door’s opening, an expert jumper would be able to make a successful jump if they could reach such a low and slow flight.
