A policeman halts traffic for a mother and her kittens to pass through
The photographer planned this image as a photo shoot, retaking it multiple times to get the perfect shot. To allow a mother and her kittens time to cross the road, two subway lines were delayed for hours.
The photograph captures an officer directing traffic on Centre Street in lower Manhattan. In the background, you can see the halted vehicles and the drivers’ angry expressions as they tell the photographer to hurry up. Even so, this is still one of Harry Warnecke’s most iconic photographs.
