This family wasn’t home to receive its package, so the delivery guy had to get creative. He didn’t want to leave it lying at the front yard, but rather he wanted to decrease the chances of the package being stolen. How considerate of him! It’s not fun having your package stolen, and chances are, if that happens, you’ll never see it again.

However, he probably didn’t consider it would also make it difficult for this family to retrieve their package. They’d probably have to use a ladder.
