#31: The Ocean Floor is a Mystery
Maps, maps, maps. Humans just love making maps. We have topographic maps, historical maps, political maps, road maps, and star maps. We don’t so much use them as a way of getting around as we do a way to help us find our place – whether it’s in our city, in society, or in the universe.
While it would seem that it’s much easier to make a map of something closer (like the ocean floor) than something farther (like Mars), that assumption doesn’t take into account one basic tool needed for map-making – visibility. Mars is much easier to see than the bottom of the ocean.
