Napoleon Lajoie – 1933 Goudey #106
Nap Lajoie, also known as Larry Lajoie and often nicknamed “The Frenchman”, played in the MLB between 1896 and 1916, for the Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphia Athletics, and the Cleveland Naps. He also managed the naps for four seasons, from 1905 to 1909. During his career, he won three batting titles and was considered one of the greatest players of his time.
For some reason, this card wasn’t included in the original Goudey set in 1933, and collectors wanting to complete the set had to send in for the card and contact Goudey. The card was later mailed to them separately with a paper clip, leaving indentations on the delicate paper. This is part of what makes the card so valuable, and its price stands at $200,000.
