Soup Tester
No soup for you! This occupation may sound a little ludicrous, but at one point people were paid to make sure that soup wasn’t poisonous before it was consumed. Most royal and affluent families appointed individuals to test not only their soup, but a variety of food to make sure it was safe to eat.
Margot Woelk was one well-known soup tester. She was given the intimidating task of testing the soup and food to be served to German officials during World War II.
