Chris Evert then
It seems as if Chris Evert was born to play tennis. Her father, Jimmy Evert, is a professional tennis coach and player, and he began training her before Chris was six years old. Tennis was a way of life in the family, as her two siblings played the sport as well. However, they never achieved greatness as Chris did. Over the course of her career, Evert won 18 Grand Slams and broke the record for the winning the most consecutive Grand Slam titles, between 1974-1981.
Naturally, the world-renowned tennis player was an inspiration to the nation and a symbol of fitness throughout the eighties, which marked the best years of her career. Over the course of her career, Evert won 157 singles championships and is still considered one of the best tennis players in the country. In 1985, Evert won the title of “Greatest Woman Athlete of the Last 25 Years” by the Women’s Sports Foundation.
