#15: This Doughnut Magic
Where’s the doughnut, you might wonder? You’re looking at it. At first glance, we thought this might be melted hard candy or some object made of glass, but it’s neither of these things. This swirling perfection is a glazed doughnut. Surely, you’ve had a glazed doughnut before, but we bet it didn’t look nearly as mesmerizing as this one.
This isn’t a regular sugar-glazed doughnut but what’s called a mirror glaze, a special technique that produces a reflective surface, much like the one you see in the photo. It’s not uncommon in baking, and it’s not difficult to achieve; there is just one problem: this doughnut looks too beautiful to take a bite.
