Do Not Pour Your Drink
Contrary to popular Western culture, the Japanese people consider it rude to pour your drink. This is why the guest can pour everyone else’s drink but their own. It is, however, a common practice for someone else to fill up your cup for you.
After this, you have to wait for someone to say cheers, or “kanpai” in Japanese, which means cheers before everyone can drink. This does complicate things a bit, but it is not a difficult one to remember, you just have to think about yourself last, which is kind of a nice lesson if you think about it.
