Belarusians once experimented with the historic white-red-white flag’s colors
Comedy can be a powerful weapon in the fight against oppression, and Belarusians know how to wield it. Belarusian democracy movement refers to the opposition parties and individuals who challenged Soviet Belarus from 1988 to 1991, as well as President Alexander Lukashenko, whom his supporters view as an authoritarian ruler. An uprising broke out when Alexander Lukashenko was named the winner of Belarus’ presidential election for the sixth time in 2020.
Belarusians came to the streets to express their displeasure following the election. In the process, they experimented with the historic white-red-white flag’s colors.
