This is the first time in history that same-sex marriage has been legalized
All of us were stunned when, in 2015, the Supreme Court of the United States ultimately decided to allow same-sex marriage. Legalized same-sex marriage had just been legalized in the United States at the time. The first country to allow same-sex marriage, on the other hand, was the United States. Back then, I lived in the Netherlands. The first country to fully legalize same-sex marriage in 2001 was the Netherlands. Even many who were first skeptical have recently come around to believe that the law is working.
While Hannie van Leeuwen, the leader of the Christian Democratic Party and an outspoken opponent of homosexual marriage, was motivated by anxieties in her opposition to same-sex marriage, she now admits, “I was wrong.”
