A climate demonstration is taking place in Cologne, Germany
Violent protests have broken out in Cologne, Germany. To illustrate the urgency of climate change, protesters wear ropes around their necks while standing on a slab of ice. According to environmental campaigner Luisa Neubauer, quoted by the French news agency AFP, they want to defend the ecosystem. Politicians “have not taken the climate calamity seriously enough,” Neubauer said. He added that young people “don’t want to hear any more excuses” from elder politicians regarding the planet they will leave behind.
Cologne is the first German city to sign on to the declaration movement, which has been endorsed by more than 700 cities around the world.
