We’d like to take some time out of watching the 2020 Olympics to talk about some pretty important people in sports. Most of you guys will probably know a handful of female athletes who have taken their respective sports by storm, which is a shame since there are far more female star athletes than you might’ve realized. Below, we’d like to share with you over 50 female athletes whose names you should know.
Ronda Rousey
Ronda Rousey is a name that almost everyone knows by now, even if they’re not huge fans of the MMA. Before becoming a UFC champion, Ronda attended various national and international sporting competitions. In the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, she took home the bronze medal after losing a close match to former Olympic the 2005 world champion, Edith Bosch.
After becoming the first American woman to take home the bronze in judo, she became the first female fighter to enlist in the UFC, as well as the first female champion in the bantamweight division. Her seventh title defense fight ended in a huge upset when Ronda was taken down by a high kick in the second round.
