#34: Toasted Water
No one ever tried soggy toast and called it surprisingly good. But wait, maybe they’re using it to flavor the water? Has it come to this? Of all the things you can use to flavor water, are people using toast? Well, apparently so, because this has shown up in several recipe books.
It was touted as an alternative to chamomile in the 1930s but was referenced several times in the 1800s. I can see why they’d give it a go, as flavored water other than herbs and fruits wasn’t on the market yet, but there are ZERO reasons to bring this back. This should stay in the 20th century, where it belongs.
