Shooting The Village
A casual viewer would not question the smooth movements in Vikings. However, there is a lot more to what appears to be a basic camera movement. The dolly on which the camera is mounted and where the director of photography sits is an expensive and state-of-the-art machine.
A random goose was chosen to walk into the frame and give the impression of a genuine living and breathing village. To make it appear real, numerous little details were added by set designers and set dressers to the setting. This brief shot most likely takes a few seconds or less to film, but it may have required hours of planning.
