Bride and Groom in Iraq
When it comes to weddings, every country has its own cultural practices that they adopt. And just because we might not be familiar with their practices and traditions, doesn’t mean that they aren’t interesting, beautiful, and sacred. The beautiful thing about being a part of such a multicultural world is witnessing so many different things…
Iraqi weddings, like other traditional weddings, are full of life, decorations, and love. In order to set the ambiance, candles are often lit and children hold olive branches. Iraqi brides walk down the aisle to traditional “Zaffa” music and are escorted by their father to meet their groom.
Instead of standing under some sort of dwelling, an Iraqi bride and groom traditionally sit on a “Kosha” which is a type of sofa. The couple remains seated for most of the ceremony which is a long-held tradition. Both families take part in giving blessings to the new couple in hopes of a fruitful and love-filled marriage.
