Bride in Kazakhstan
As we’ve seen in other countries before, in Kazakhstan young girls prepare for their wedding day long before they’re even engaged. You might have noticed the unique headdress the Kazakh bride is wearing – this special hat is called ‘Saukele’, a bridal headpiece that is prepared for each girl long before she even reaches the appropriate age to get married.
The headpiece is trimmed with real fur and is quite expensive. The top of the hat is usually decorated with a different kind of fabric or a precious stone, depending on the social status of the bride. For wealthier women, the hat will be adorned with a gem, gold fabric or velvet, and for lower classes, the hat would be decorated with cheaper fabrics, such as satin.
