#34: All in the Name of Being Fair and Equal
While there are various reasons why the rich may not pay as much in taxes as others, such as deductions, loopholes, and offshore accounts, it ultimately creates an uneven playing field. Why should those that earn far less be taking all of the slack for something the wealthy can do?
Those who can afford to hire accountants and lawyers can often find ways to lower their tax burden, while those who cannot afford such services end up paying a higher percentage of their income. This cycle contributes to income inequality and a sense of injustice for those who feel that the system is rigged in favor of the wealthy.
