#33: Sam Langford
Langford was widely considered one of the most feared fighters ever, and his toughness was legendary. He regularly fought men far bigger than himself and never backed down. He endured savage punishment and kept pressing forward, relying on grit and power. Langford’s fearlessness made him a mythic figure in boxing.

In 1917, nearly blind in one eye, Langford fought Harry Wills, a much larger heavyweight contender. Despite the physical disadvantage, he fought fiercely, lasting all 10 rounds and hurting Wills multiple times. That performance showed his toughness — refusing to surrender even as age and injuries mounted against him.
