#29: James J. Braddock
Braddock embodied resilience and toughness. Once considered washed up, he fought through injuries, poverty, and long odds. He lacked flash but possessed unshakable grit, grinding opponents down with sheer effort. Braddock’s ability to keep coming in the face of adversity made him one of boxing’s most inspiring tough men.

In 1935, Braddock faced Max Baer for the heavyweight championship as a massive underdog. Absorbing Baer’s heavy shots, he outworked and outlasted him over 15 grueling rounds to win a unanimous decision. That upset victory defined Braddock’s toughness and earned him the nickname “The Cinderella Man.”
