#38: Nickel Mine Accused Of Poisoning Communities
Residents near the Cerro Matoso nickel mine have accused the company of contaminating their water and air with heavy metals. Locals say children are suffering from skin diseases and respiratory problems caused by years of unregulated mining operations.

Environmental studies have backed up some of these claims, leading to lawsuits and public outrage. While the company denies wrongdoing, the community continues to demand medical care and cleanup efforts. The case has become a symbol of how Colombia’s natural wealth often comes at a painful human cost.
