This easy backyard sport is fun for all ages. Your younger kids can grab a badminton racket and pretend to play with the big kids while the parents enjoy hitting a few birdies too. All you need is a badminton set which usually includes four rackets, a few birdies (the thing you hit with the racket), and a net similar to the net used for volleyball.
You can set a basketball hoop up in your driveway by placing a hoop on the side of your garage or house. If you live in a low-traffic area you can use a basketball hoop that rolls to a location best suited to play basketball with your family. You’ll need a basketball and a basketball pump, too, that way you always have a fully inflated basketball ready for an impromptu family basketball game.
Baseball or Softball
You can make your bases out of pieces of cardboard, or purchase a basketball kit for your backyard to enjoy this family sport together. You’ll want a few baseball bats that are in various sizes so that every family member has a bat that works for their size. Then get baseballs, softballs, or whiffle balls to enjoy backyard baseball or softball with your family after a busy day.
During the shutdown, many people weren’t able to venture away from home for long periods, but you may be able to enjoy bicycle riding together. Get all of the supplies from helmets to knee pads and a bicycle for everyone. Plan a day of cycling around town with your family for a fun family sports day. You can look at your local area to see where bike trails are, to make cycling even safer for all ages.
While you may not have heard about rollerblading in a while, this is truly a fun sport to enjoy as a family. Purchase rollerblades for the family and plan to get out to rollerblade on a local trail or in the driveway, sometimes you can rollerblade down the road if you live on a tarred backroad, too!
