Superfoods to Include in a Traveler’s Diet

March 5, 2023 by Aaron Reed

Traveling can be an exciting adventure, but it can also take a toll on the body. Long flights, unfamiliar food, and a change in climate can all have an effect on one’s health. To ensure that you stay in optimal shape while on the go, it’s important to include superfoods in your diet. Superfoods are nutrient-packed foods that provide a host of health benefits. Here are some superfoods to include in any traveler’s diet for maximum health and wellness:

Berries: Berries such as blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries contain powerful antioxidants that help protect cells from damage caused by free radicals. They’re also rich in fiber—a key component of maintaining regularity during travel—and vitamins C and K, which are associated with increased bone strength.

Nuts & Seeds: Nuts like almonds and walnuts as well as seeds like chia and flaxseeds contain monounsaturated fats (the healthy kind!), protein, fiber, and essential vitamins and minerals like iron, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc and copper. They’re great for providing sustained energy and helping maintain normal cholesterol levels.

Fatty Fish: Fatty fish such as salmon or tuna are packed with omega-3 fatty acids which help reduce inflammation—especially important if traveling to areas where temperatures may be drastically different from what you’re used to. Additionally fatty fish contains vitamin D which is associated with improved mental acuity—perfect when you need the extra boost after long flights!

Avocado: Avocados contain healthy fats essential for proper digestion as well as brain function promoting lutein and zeaxanthin which are associated with better vision. Additionally they contain B vitamins which help support general body functions plus plenty of potassium for strong bones and muscles.

Dark Chocolate: Dark chocolate is filled with antioxidants – more than many other types of food including blueberries – plus magnesium which helps regulate cortisol levels when stress levels start climbing while away from home.

Including these superfoods in your daily diet while traveling will not only help keep your body functioning at its best but will provide energy boosts between activities so you can make the most out of your travels!
