#39: Schmidt, New Girl
New Girl (2011) began as a vehicle for Zooey Deschanel’s Jess, a quirky teacher who moves into a loft with three single men after a bad breakup. Jess’s offbeat charm and earnestness were the focus, positioning her as the comedic and emotional anchor of the ensemble.

But Max Greenfield’s Schmidt became the breakout. His over-the-top vanity, obsessive need for rules, and endless “Schmidt-isms” defined the show’s humor. Storylines about his romantic misadventures, complicated relationship with Cece, and ridiculous loft behavior often stole the spotlight. Schmidt grew into the series’ most quotable and beloved character.
