#3: The Fonz, Happy Days
When Happy Days premiered in 1974, it was intended to spotlight Richie Cunningham, an all-American teenager navigating high school, friendship, and family life in the 1950s. Richie, played by Ron Howard, was the wholesome, dependable protagonist anchoring the nostalgic comedy for its earliest seasons.

But Arthur “Fonzie” Fonzarelli roared in as the true star. With his leather jacket, motorcycle, and trademark “Ayy,” Henry Winkler’s Fonzie became a pop culture phenomenon. He grew from comic relief into the emotional center of the show, eclipsing Richie and eventually taking over as the primary reason viewers tuned in.
